Japanese Smokes

-->

Care for a smoke?
Ok not only Japanese cigarettes, Japan sells tons of American brand smokes too.

Back home smoking is a “big no, no” but in Japan, smoke up!

Just recently restaurants and coffee shops have created “no smoking sections” however, you’ll be sitting right next to a smoker if you’re close to the dividing line.

I heard in New York a pack of smokes cost a whopping 8 bucks! But in Japan, 2.50 to 3 dollars will get you a pack of any brand you want.

One nasty thing about smokers in Japan, some old guys walk and smoke at the same time and they can burn a hole in your jacket sleeve if you get too close. This is just plan rude!

Recently, there’re places in Tokyo where you can see signs on the sidewalk saying “no smoking and walking” but it doesn’t seem like people listen.
If you’re a smoker, you’ll love Japan, China or Korea. If you don’t smoke, I’ll feel for you.

Update: The Goverment will now allow people to use there insurance to get stop smoking patches from there doctors and other aids to help one quit smoking. It’s very slow here, the stop smoking movement that is.

    Yep - been there many times. The first time I went to Japan (about 1986) the bus from Narita airport had a tiny no-smoking area. Although I’d smoke once in a great while (was quitting again) I found myself in what appeared to be a predominately smoking country. Not quite like that anymore - although, as you point out, cigs are on almost every corner.

    Hey liked your blog. I managed to win 50,000 yen last week playing slot pachinko when a bloke playing next me stopped me and pressed the buttons with immaculate timing. He did this about four times!! I think he took pity on me!

    Korea has got to have the world’s cheapest smokes. I’m not a smoker, but if I were, and I had quit, and came over here, it’s be awful hard not to start up again. Less than one American buck. Yikes.

    But no “American” brands…not that I have seen anyways.

    Dang it and I just quit. I wish I would have know of this sooner. It sounds like a dream world to me. :) At least I could go over there and maybe just inhale while walking around with a flame retardent jacket on?
