Japan Vacation

If you are thinking about a Japan vacation, I don’t even know where to begin telling you where to go. There are so many things to do and see in Japan, you can spend years there touring around and still be missing something.

The first place to start is Tokyo. Tokyo is the biggest metropolitan area in the world and the center of Japanese life. There is tons of sightseeing and shopping, and the food is amazing. Among the most popular places to see in Tokyo are the Imperial Palace, Asakusa and the Meiji Shrine. For shopping, you can go to Ginza, Shinjuku or Akihabara for electronic goods. And, therefs always something to see in Odaiba, a futuristic town built on the ocean off Tokyo Bay.

There is also lots to do close to Tokyo. First off, there is Tokyo Disneyland, which is actually in Chiba, but not too far from the city. You can do a day trip to Yokohama and visit its famous Chinatown and shopping areas. For those interested in history, Yokohama has lots to see. Finally, you can go down to Kamakura and see the giant statue of Buddha and the beautiful beaches.

If you have time and can make a trip to the Kansai Region of Japan, you won’t be disappointed. Kyoto is the most popular destination for seeing temples. Kyoto is an old city where geishas can still be seen out and about. For the most authentic, traditional Japan experience, Kyoto is definitely the place to go. Osaka, which is close by, is Japan’s second largest city, and is an exciting place for shopping and nightlife. You can also try Kansai food like okonomi-yaki and see Osaka Castle.

If you like snowboarding or the great outdoors, Hokkaido is a great place to go. Hokkaido (along with Niigata prefecture) boasts some of the best spots in Japan for snowboarding. The island is often compared to the Great American West, with its mountains, wide open spaces and outdoor activities. It also has the freshest seafood in all of Japan. It the winter you can experience the snow festival.

Japan has many famous hot springs, called onsen. Pretty mountain towns like Karuizawa, which is near Nagano, have lots of resorts and onsens where you can relax. Karuizawa is one of the most famous places for onsens, but you can find spots closer to Tokyo as well.

Finally, there is Okinawa, considered by many to be Japan’s own Hawaii. Okinawa, which has not always been a part of Japan, has its own culture and languages. Okinawa is famous for its beautiful beaches and tasty food. Okinawan dishes are served all over Japan.

Japan is a great place for a vacation. The minute you get on the plane to go home, you’ll be planning your next trip!

Japanese Apples

If you’re living in [tag]Japan[/tag] like me or only coming over for a vacation, you should at least buy one of these apples for the experience.

Japanese apples

I was blown away when I first saw these apples being sold for five dollars or more like the one in this picture. I was freaking out saying to my wife “Are these [tag]Japanese[/tag] people nuts!?” Then she told me about Ubari melon from Hokaido which will cost anywhere from one hundred dollars to three hundred dollars!

I’m not into apples but if you are, you’re in for treat!

Japanese high end fruit is the best I’ve tasted … peaches pears being the best from Yamanashi ken.
